Master Chief Petty Officer Darius Johnson, US Navy
Darius Johnson joined the US Navy in 1985 and began his naval career on the flight deck of the Theodore Roosevelt as a catapult operator. After being accepted into the Anti-Terrorism Special Program in 1989, he was deployed to Desert Storm. In October 2001, while serving on the USS Kitty Hawk as the chief investigator and brig warden, he was injured during naval operations when hundreds of pounds of equipment fell on him, severely injuring his back, shoulders, and chest. Due to his remote location at sea, Darius was not able to be treated for his injuries before permanent damage occurred. He honorably retired after 25 years of service.
Darius earned a bachelor’s degree in administration from the University of the Incarnate Word in May 2014. He is currently pursuing his certification to become a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and plans to work with families dealing with substance abuse/addiction and homelessness.
