How to Host a Community Fundraising Event

Thank you for your interest in hosting an event to begin raising awareness and funds for Sentinels of Freedom (SOF). We are grateful for your gifts of both time and fundraising dollars.

Select your type of event: Start by researching common types of events to hold, think about whom your potential supporters are, your event location, and your volunteer base. Some popular ideas that have been successful in the past include Sports Tournaments; Golf Event; Run, Walk, Bike or Swim Event; Motorcycle or car event; or Benefit concert.

Your passions and hobbies are unique, so host a one-of-a-kind fundraising effort for your community. Other types of events include galas, bake-offs, pasta dinners, jeans day, picnics, etc. Share your unique skills and hobbies while raising awareness for SOF today.

Select a committee: Gather a dedicated committee to make your event planning a success.

Set a date: Set a date early in the process, this will help determine the timeline for the event planning process. Consider holidays and other local events as you are selecting your date.

Fundraising Goal: Determine a realistic fundraising goal and set a budget.

Register your event: Once you select your event type and date, you are ready to register your event. To register your event, please fill out the form found at the bottom of this page and email it to info@sentinelsoffreedom.org.

Make a plan and recruit volunteers: You’ve outlined the big details and registered your event, so now it’s time to start planning. Start with the date of the event and work your way backward to ensure you give yourself enough time to prepare. Remember important pieces like advertising and promotion. Once you delegate jobs to your volunteers, check in on a regular basis to see the progress and find out if they need any additional assistance.

Collect funds: Make sure you inform potential donors about the cause you are supporting. Don’t forget to mention that all donations made in the form of a check, cashier’s check, or money orders are tax deductible. As soon as we receive the funds you’ve collected, we will send a letter of acknowledgment for all eligible donations, which supporters can use for their tax records.
